Ac 2007-232: Cost-effective Process Control Lab Setup

چکیده
Many four-year engineering technology programs require or offer course(s) that emphasize examining the transient behavior of systems. The systems can be mechanical, electrical, chemical, or any other engineering discipline. These courses are generally classified as classes covering control system theory. Unfortunately, examining the transient behavior of control systems is very difficult in a lab environment. Frequently, computer software is utilized to model the systems and then monitor their behavior. Since engineering technology programs stress the concept of a “hands-on” approach, efforts are continually made to utilize hardware to fabricate physical systems that can be used to demonstrate class concepts. There are several companies that offer physical systems that can be modeled. Unfortunately, my experience is that these are very expensive. At the University of Maine, we stress the use of industrial equipment. We have developed a physical system using industrial equipment that students can readily use to validate concepts. The industrial equipment is a combination of inexpensive hardware store items, donated industrial equipment, and industrial equipment purchased at a reduced cost. This paper will describe the system and how it is used in the class to reinforce concepts. Further, it will discuss some of the lessons learned for how to build the system as quickly and as economically as possible.

Real-Time Digital Simulator Enabled Hardware-in-the-Loop Electric Machine Drive Lab
This paper presents real-time digital simulator enabled hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) electrical machine drive lab setup for educational purposes. The objective of this work is to create a platform for laboratory experiments to enhance drive control design and testing. In the proposed setup, an OPAL-RT real-time digital simulator (RT-LAB) is used to implement the desired control schemes for AC and...
متن کاملAc 2007-1986: Increasing It Laboratory Flexibility Using Portable Hard Drives
IT students have unique workstation requirements that include complete control of a computer and its configuration, resulting in setups that are often incompatible with other uses of the lab. For example, the system integration and administration thrusts of the IT curricula require that a student be trained week after week on his own system, with his own software installation, configuration and...
متن کاملAc 2007-1075: Remote Quality Control Integrated with Internet-based Robotic Systems
The current trends in industry include an integration of information and knowledge base network with a manufacturing system, which coined a new term, e-manufacturing. From the perspective of e-manufacturing, any production equipment and its control functions do not exist alone, instead becoming a part of the holistic operation system with distant monitoring, remote quality control and fault dia...

This paper shows the convergence of the value iteration (or successive approximations) algorithm for average cost (AC) Markov control processes on Borel spaces, with possibly unbounded cost, under appropriate hypotheses on weighted norms for the cost function and the transition law. It is also shown that the aforementioned convergence implies strong forms of AC-optimality and the existence of f...
متن کاملAn Integrated Inventory Model with Controllable Lead time and Setup Cost Reduction for Defective and Non-Defective Items
In this paper, the study deals with the lead time and setup reduction problem in the vendor-purchaser integrated inventory model. The cost of capital (i.e., opportunity cost) is one of the key factors in making the inventory and investment decisions. Lead time is an important element in any inventory system. The proposed model is presents an integrated inventory model with controllable lead tim...
